Eligibility: Full-time faculty, professional or professorial, of Brigham Young University for at least five years prior to the nomination.  All awards are presented to those individuals who have exhibited devotion to the teaching of General Education, Honors, or Freshman Academy courses.  The criteria for selection will include length and breadth of service to the GE program, curriculum development of both new and existing courses, student evaluations, and superb teaching.

Who may nominate: Anyone may nominate a candidate for these awards, but all nominations are to be submitted through the nominee's Department Chair. The Undergraduate Education Dean's office and the Faculty General Education Council may make an independent nomination for either award.

General Information: The Karl G. Maeser General Education Professorships were established to recognize exceptional service to GE at Brigham Young University through outstanding teaching, the development of new courses, new programs or new philosophies, and by a sustained, long-term commitment to these efforts. Appointments to these positions have been made to faculty with a deep love for the liberal arts and a willingness to commit significant time and energy to the teaching of GE courses. The Karl G. Maeser General Education Professorship is an appointment of three years with a stipend of $5,000 added to the professor's salary, and also carries $7,500 in annual research support funds.
