Eligibility: A faculty member must have continuing faculty status at BYU and hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (or the professional faculty equivalent).
Who may nominate: A faculty member is nominated by the department chair and dean or by the University Councils on Rank and Status with the concurrence of the department chair and dean.
General Information: The Alumni Professorship was established to recognize exceptional service to students and teaching at Brigham Young University through outstanding mentoring, advising, teaching, the development of new courses, new programs, or new philosophies, and by a sustained, long-term commitment to these efforts. This Professorship is given to a BYU faculty member who through a career of exceptional teaching, mentoring, and advising of students has helped fulfill the mission of BYU and has helped students to enter to learn and be prepared to go forth and serve. The Alumni Professorship carries a $5,000 annual salary stipend and $2,500 annual research budget for a term of three years. The Alumni Professorship is not renewable.
The annual support funds are subject to all University financial policies, and any capital equipment purchased from these funds is the property of the University. Any unexpended funding may carry over for the duration of the award. A professorship may not extend beyond retirement. Any accumulated funding not expended within three (3) years after the expiration of a professorship (or retirement, whichever comes first) will revert to the Academic Vice President for reallocation.
